😃I try to avoid 7-Eleven as much as possible 👎😡"7-Eleven to Close Down 645 Stores in North America This Year"

https://www.breitbart.com/economy/2026/04/14/7-eleven-close-645-stores-north-america-this-year/

“Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past.” — Deuteronomy 32:7

FOUNDER OF 7-ELEVEN
Founder: Joe C. Thompson Sr.
He transformed the Southland Ice Company in Dallas (1927) by selling milk, bread, & eggs to customers, creating what became the modern convenience store

STATUS
Joe C. Thompson Sr. is deceased
(mid-20th century)

FAMILY INVOLVEMENT
Second generation:
John P. Thompson (his son) became president in 1961 & expanded the business nationwide

Later generations:
The Thompson family stayed involved for decades & still held a stake into the late 20th century

TODAY
7-Eleven is owned by Seven & i Holdings
The Thompson family no longer controls or runs the company

THE CORPORATE DRAMA
 (HOW CONTROL WAS LOST)
1970s–1980s:
7-Eleven (then Southland Corporation) expands aggressively
Growth looks strong, but the company takes on heavy debt

Mid-1980s:
Corporate raiders attempt a hostile takeover
Management fights back with a leveraged buyout, taking on even more debt to stay independent
This saves control short-term, but weakens the company financially

Late 1980s:
Debt becomes overwhelming
At the same time, economic pressure & competition increase
The company begins to struggle seriously

1990–1991 turning point:
Southland files for bankruptcy protection
Enter Ito-Yokado (already a partner operating 7-Eleven in Japan)
They inject capital & gradually take majority control

Result:
Control shifts from the founding American family to Japanese ownership
The Thompson family’s role fades out

AFTERMATH
Japanese leadership restructures the business.Focus shifts to efficiency, data-driven inventory, & high-performing stores. This model becomes extremely successful globally

BOTTOM LINE
The Thompson family built 7-Eleven & grew it nationwide, But heavy debt + takeover battles led to bankruptcy.
That crisis opened the door for Japanese investors to take control.
Today it is a global corporate brand, no longer family-run

'The safest option for a woman': What the 7-Eleven incident shows us * "

https://www.wnd.com/2025/11/safest-option-woman-what-7-eleven-incident-shows/

I say you allow the female clerks to use guns but not the male clerks. Reasoning being that male clerks at 7-Elevens tend to be very self-righteous and condescending towards customers.
so they're going to see every customer as a scumbag and they're going to be too quick to use that gun, whereas females usually are a little more kind towards customers . Needless to say I avoid 7-Elevens like the plague just because they treat customers so poorly usually.

Summary of the Article

The article describes how 25-year-old Stephanie Dilyard was fired from her Oklahoma City 7-Eleven after she used her firearm to stop an attacker who threatened to kill her. She says the man told her he would slice her head off, threw items at her, chased her behind the counter, grabbed her by the neck, and continued assaulting her as she tried to escape and call the police.

At that moment she drew her gun and shot him. She survived but suffered neck and hand injuries. The attacker, Kenneth Thompson, had an outstanding felony warrant and now faces charges including assault and battery, violent threats, and attempting to use counterfeit money.

Despite working the dangerous overnight shift alone for more than two years, company policy required her to use only "store items" for self-defense. She said she chose her life because her children depend on her.

The article shifts to analysis by John Lott, who argues that many companies misunderstand crime data when they instruct employees to remain passive during an attack. While raw statistics may suggest passive behavior is slightly safer than "active resistance," the category of resistance includes many unsafe methods that skew the data. Lott states that for women, fighting physically is the most dangerous option, since it often leads to escalated violence by a stronger male attacker.

Running is also risky because many women cannot outrun a male aggressor, and being tackled can cause severe injury. Using improvised weapons like bats or knives doesn't improve the odds much because physical contact still favors the attacker.

Lott argues that a firearm provides the greatest increase in a woman's ability to protect herself. According to his interpretation of Bureau of Justice Statistics data, women using passive behavior are 2.5 times more likely to be seriously injured than women who use a gun. He also claims that when women receive concealed-carry permits, female murder rates drop significantly and rape rates fall by roughly 25% in states that allow nondiscretionary concealed carry.

The article concludes that while police are essential, they almost always arrive after the crime has already occurred, meaning immediate survival rests on the victim. The final note is that Stephanie's children still have their mother because she defended herself.

Critique

The article is compelling and emotionally powerful, successfully blending a personal story with a policy argument. It highlights the real danger of overnight retail work and the tension between corporate safety rules and individual survival.

However, it presents only one research viewpoint, relying heavily on John Lott's work, which is respected by some but disputed by others. The article does not explore alternative perspectives, such as why corporations create no-resistance rules, how liability plays into policy, or whether different safety protocols could protect workers without requiring them to be armed.

Additionally, the argument presents a binary choice—passive compliance or firearm defense—while ignoring other solutions like improving store security, mandating two-person shifts, installing protective barriers, or employing on-site security staff.

It also does not address potential legal or employment consequences for workers who carry guns against company policy. Still, its primary strength is that it raises an urgent question about what individuals, especially women, can realistically do when physically overpowered and alone.

"Killing of Andres Guardado "- Wikipedia

Reminds me of when a dishonest 7-Eleven employee tried to destroy my phone thinking it would destroy the evidence I had against him.  he smashed my phone on the ground but that did NOT ruin the SD card with the footage

NOT 7-ELEVEN BUT ALSO IN THE CLERK HALL OF SHAME (Chevron Pasadena)

above:  perp #2
above: perp #1

This was my 15th straight year at the  Rose Parade, and the last two years in a row in same spot (near the Chevron at 1400 E. Colorado Ave. Pasadena CA 91106) ...we went to the Rose Parade and like many others stood by the sidewalk as the floats went by.

Halfway thru the parade last year (2018)  the guy claiming to be the owner came up to my wife & I and started yelling at us to GET OFF his grass..the little strip near the sidewalk which actually may be public property.

Needless to say, there were others on the grass as well, but he chose to TAKE OUT HIS ANGER at me because I was standing on a bucket, and he CLAIMED I was blocking the view of the people in their motor homes who he rents out the parking lot to for parade viewing.

This OWNER seemed to  care nothing about the parade or the people, ONLY about the money he was making from the motor homes. Furthermore, instead of asking nicely if we could move one way or another to appease his motor home customers, he  made it a POWER & CONTROL  issue..ie confrontational.

Hence, we refused to move, and told him to go get the police if he thinks we are breaking the law. So he stomped away angrily and came back with a sheriff deputy, who said he was "NOT SURE" if this was private property or not.

The deputy (last year, 2018) handled it perfectly, saying, "if you just move your bucket ahead two inches on to the sidewalk , this silly issue is resolved.
I agreed because the deputy was cool about it.

///  FAST FORWARD to 2019, same scenario, ..again the Chevron owner waited until halfway thru the parade to CONFRONT ME & my wife. It was obvious he had PRE-PLANNED it this time.. he came with another fellow & immediately GOT IN MY FACE saying "GET OFF MY GRASS.."

BY the way, this time there was nobody in a motor home behind me. They were on the roof . Nobody's view was blocked. He was ANGRY from a year ago ! Once again I said, "Go get the police" ..so perpetrator #1 stomps away while perpetrator #2 holds up his arm trying to block my camera as I filmed the parade (I've been doing this every year for many years) .

I would move my camera and he would jump up and try to block the camera like a basketball player, and also started pushing up against me with his body. It was VERY IMMATURE & PETULANT & offensive, to say the least.

Perp #1 returned w/ 2 deputies and I realized he had CONCOCTED A STORY as if I was disturbing people..the deputies arrived expecting to find a troublemaker . Perp #1 had gotten them RILED UP in advance.

Instead of calmly investigating whether any laws were being broken that they needed to "enforce", they came by like "bouncers" working for the Chevron perp.

Meanwhile, I was losing valuable film time. I take great pride in filming the entire parade and have followers who are waiting to watch. I acquiesced for the time being and my wife & I moved off to a different area, but it DEFINITELY left a bad taste in our mouth & also other spectators who were on our side (which was ALL of them).

Also, after moving to a new location, I noticed the two deputies who acted like bouncers more than trained law enforcement , walk into the Chevron and one came out with food , making me wonder if the perpetrator owner basically "bribed" them to do his bidding (maybe these are reserve deputies ?

Later I asked for their names, and they refused to tell me. & they also refused to tell me the name of their supervisor. & they did NOT have name tags or badges displayed. This is a separate matter which I will address to the L.A. Sheriff Dept) /  So that's the story of the CHEVRON perp.

He cares about money, not about people. And he holds a grudge..I don't know what his background or religion is, but it's  A little scary. I'm glad he doesn't know my name or address.

I ask CHEVRON corporation to intervene ! I am a good law-abiding citizen. I do NOT deserve to be mistreated as I was. -John Vander- (BA/BA/M.Div)
